Dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin
With time, sun exposure and lifestyle, skin can lose hydration and become dull, rough or finely lined. Skin boosters aim to improve skin quality rather than change your features.
How skin boosters work
Skin boosters are usually based on hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin that attracts and holds water. Small amounts are placed just under the skin surface through multiple fine injections, to improve hydration, texture and glow.
They are commonly given as a short course of sessions a few weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance. Unlike fillers, they are not meant to add volume or change contours.
Who skin boosters may suit
May be suitable if you want…
- better skin hydration and texture
- a subtle improvement in fine lines and glow
- treatment for the face, neck or hands
May not be suitable if you…
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- have an active skin infection or inflammation in the area
- have certain medical conditions or allergies
- are hoping for volume or lifting (see fillers)
What to expect
1
Before
A consultation to review your skin, medical history and goals. Some medicines and supplements may need to be paused beforehand to reduce bruising.
2
On the day
A numbing cream is usually applied, followed by fine injections. Treatment typically takes under an hour.
3
Afterwards
Small bumps, redness or minor bruising at the injection points are common and usually settle within a few days. Avoid makeup, heat and strenuous exercise for a short time, as advised.
4
Results
Improvement in skin quality builds gradually over the course of treatment. How long it lasts varies from person to person.
Treatment by Dr. Omkar Warang, DNB
Dr. Warang’s interest in facial aesthetics has grown into an injectables practice that includes skin boosters, neurotoxin and fillers. As a dermatologist, he assesses your skin first and recommends skin boosters only when they suit your goals.
Are skin boosters the same as fillers?
No. Both often use hyaluronic acid, but skin boosters are spread finely to improve skin quality, while fillers are placed to add volume or shape.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually a short initial course, then maintenance. The plan is tailored to your skin.
Does it hurt?
A numbing cream makes the fine injections more comfortable. Most people find it very tolerable.
Is there downtime?
Usually minimal. Small bumps or redness typically fade within a day or two; bruising may take a little longer.
