Understanding stretch marks
Stretch marks form when skin stretches quickly, during growth spurts, pregnancy, weight gain or with some medicines. New marks are often red or purple; older marks fade to white or silvery lines.
Stretch marks are harmless. Treatment can make them less noticeable, and newer marks usually respond better than older ones.
How stretch marks are treated
Usually a course of treatments is combined for the best result.
- Topical treatments: for early, red marks
- Microneedling: to stimulate collagen and improve texture
- Laser treatment: to improve colour and texture
- Combination plans: chosen for the age and colour of the marks
